News Minute: Here is the latest New York news from The Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Contenders hoping to win the right to open a casino in upstate New York include hometown business owners as well as gambling giants like Caesars, Genting Group and Foxwoods. A state gambling panel has released the names of organizations pitching 22 different casino proposals. Yesterday was the deadline for interested parties to pay a $1 million application fee.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York judge has approved public disclosure of two remaining volumes from an investigation into the 1971 Attica prison riot and aftermath, but he is excluding grand jury excerpts. Justice Patrick NeMoyer says it's now up to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (SHNEYE'-dur-muhn), who has the entire 1975 Meyer Commission report, to publicly release those volumes after removing any evidence from grand jury investigations into possible crimes.

ALTAMONT, N.Y. (AP) - New York conservation officials have announced $1.4 million in grants to 50 nonprofit land trusts around the state. The Environmental Protection Fund grants are expected to generate $1.1 million in matching private and local funds to protect farmland, conserve open space and improve public access and recreation.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Bills cheerleaders will be making no appearances this year, a decision that comes days after a lawsuit over pay and working conditions. Stephanie Mateczun is the manager of the Buffalo Jills and president of Stejon Productions. She wouldn't explain the suspension, but two days earlier five former cheerleaders sued the company and NFL team.
