ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is picking up key endorsements from editorial boards and labor unions ahead of next week's Democratic primary. Cuomo was endorsed Tuesday by the New York Daily News. Cuomo and his running mate, former Buffalo congresswoman Kathy Hochul, also received the endorsements of The Buffalo News, the Transport Workers Union and a union representing 275,000 health care workers.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man who threw a 10-pound chunk of asphalt through the windshield of a passing car, killing the driver, has been sentenced to two to six years in prison. Alberto Plasencia (pluh-SEHN'-see-uh), of Yonkers pleaded guilty to manslaughter in June. Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore says he was sentenced today.
HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old girl was behind the wheel of an SUV during a crash in northeast Pennsylvania that killed three high school sophomores. The Wayne County district attorney's office didn't disclose the driver's identity, but said in a release issued Tuesday that she's from New York. Officials say five other teens were in the vehicle when it flipped over while trying to negotiate a turn in Paupack Township Saturday.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - For the first time researchers are looking at whether money from the Marcellus Shale natural gas boom helps Pennsylvania children and families. Research by Penn State sociology professor Molly Martin will compare northeastern Pennsylvania communities that have experienced the boom with nearby ones in New York state that haven't.
