Ashley Johnson leaped at the opportunity to join the great cast of Chasing News and return home. She's a Philly girl who was born in the Big Apple. Ashley loves to hit the ground on breaking news, politics and human interest stories.
Before Chasing News, Ashley was a general assignment reporter with FOX 26 KRIV in Houston for two years. She enjoyed getting a taste of the Southwest and covered several high-profile cases including the jail cell death of Sandra Bland and the assassination of Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth. She also got a taste of the stormy weather with live coverage of the 2015 Memorial Day floods.
Ashley previously worked at WPHL 17 in Philadelphia for Tribune's morning show “Eye Opener,” where she covered feature stories and entertainment news.
The Philadelphia native got her start in TV as a multimedia reporter for WPTZ, the NBC affiliate serving Burlington, Vermont, and Plattsburgh, New York. She credits a six-month summer internship through the Emma Bowen Foundation for helping her realize her passion.
Ashley attended the University of Pennsylvania where she dual majored in political science and communications, and earned a master of science degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. Like the Kenneth Parcell character on “30 Rock,” Ashley participated in the NBC Page program in New York City, where she worked for programs including “The Suze Orman Show” and “Weekend Today.”
