Hoboken councilman tagged as terrorist on Twitter

Hoboken City Councilman Ravinder Bhalla received a racist tweet:   "How the hell did Hoboken allow this guy to be a councilman? Shouldn't even be allowed in the U.S. #terrorist," the person wrote.

Bhalla, who is a Sikh, quickly responded:  "Sir, I am born & raised in America. You clearly don't know what it means to be an American. #ignorant."

Bhalla, who was born in New Jersey, asked the Twitter troll to lunch in the hope that the interaction could educate him on Sikhism.

"We are often misperceived as being from the Muslim community and that has led to a lot of issues of racial profiling and hate crimes," Bhalla said.

The offer was not as politely accepted by the Twitter user, who responded via Twitter: "Never."
