Michele and Joe Novak tried to get pregnant for over 6 years.

After two rounds of IVF, they finally became pregnant on the 2nd try with twins, a boy and a girl.

However, at just 23 weeks and 6 days, Michele felt ill and delivered Tyler and Emma.

The twins who were due on February 22 were actually born on November 1.

Tyler was just 1 pound 8 ounces, while Emma was just 1 pound 6 ounces.

“You can’t prepare yourself to how little they are,” Michele said.

Emma lived less than 1 day, but Tyler survived a difficult battle in the NICU.

Still to this day, Tyler suffers from the 7 blood transfusions he had while in the NICU, chronic lung disease, staph infection, pneumonia, and he has trouble with his eyes.

“To lose one it’s like, I feel like, like you have one here who is your anchor, but half of your heart is gone,” Michele stated.

When Michele learned about the March of Dimes, she immediately wanted to get involved.

Not only did the March of Dimes fund research to help save Tyler, it also provided her with a support network of others who have gone through similar experiences.
