Petition created to build pedestrian bridge after tragic deaths

Tyler Sellers and Sabore Worrell were struck and killed by a car while crossing Route 440 in Bayonne last week.

Tyler Sellers and Sabore Worrell were struck and killed by a car while crossing Route 440 in Bayonne last week.

The two friends, both from Bayonne and both in their early 20s, were walking home after a movie when they were hit. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, Sellers was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

Jason Sellers, Tyler's father, said that his son was always happy, "He was a lovable kid, just absolutely happy about life."

His mother, Patricia Sellers said, "He loved his friends," and added that Tyler planned to go to culinary school.

The family members are speaking out because they believe it is critical that a pedestrian walkway be installed at the Lefante Way intersection, where the accident happened.

City residents have also started a petition on change.org for a pedestrian bridge to be built over Route 440. It has almost 1,400 signatures.

“It should be fixed immediately because I’d hate to see anyone go through losing their child like me,” Patricia Sellers said.

Sellers and Worrell are the 15th and 16th pedestrians killed by motorists in Hudson County this year.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis did not comment upon our request.
