Baby with rare condition having surgery

A family is hoping a New York surgeon can perform a miracle.

Sandy Diaz was born in Queens just over a year ago with a large mass on her neck, known as a lymphatic malformation. The noncancerous growth can be deadly if left untreated due to possible infection and blocked airways.

The family has tried a number of alternative methods to downsize the large growth, but nothing has worked. The final option is surgery, which was scheduled Wednesday.
