In honor of MLK Day, Sibile joined the 26th U.S. Colored Troops Regiment at the New York Historical Society on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

We spoke to Alice Stevenson at the New York Historical Society about the Black Lives Matter movement and talk of black power today and its roots in American history.

"Black Lives Matter is a great example of a movement addressing same issues that we found in the '60s, '70s with Black Power. We can go back even 100 more years to the Civil War. It's a great way to frame what's going on today and think about it," Stevenson said.

The 26th U.S. Colored Troops were from New York and played a key role in freeing slaves during the Civil War, the bloodiest war in U.S. history.
