You may have seen the YouTube videos from BarkBox celebrating dogs by giving them a "Dog's Best Day". The latest installment introduced the world to Bretagne, the last known living search-and-rescue dog who worked at Ground Zero.
Bretagne and her mom/handler Denise Corliss are members of Texas Task Force 1, and they joined nearly 100 other search-and-rescue dogs in the rubble of the World Trade Center after 9/11. Their bond has been unshakable ever since.
BarkBox teamed with 1 Hotel Central Park to bring Bretagne and Denise back to the city and to give the dog the best day ever to thank her for her service, and in honor of her 16th birthday. You can watch her special day unfold in the video below, but beware, you may need a tissue.

Her day was filled, of course, with endless new toys and treats -- even a meal of the hotel's gourmet hamburger. But it also included a ride in a vintage NYC taxi to Times Square, where her picture showed up with birthday wishes on a big screen.

Then, she headed to Friends of Hudson River Park where she got to play around in the dog run, and even got the key to the park!

"The doggie equivilent to the key to the city!" said Marla Smith, who is on the board for the park.

A donation by 1 Hotel Central Park was also made in Bretagne's honor to Texas Task Force 1 so they can continue training search and rescue dogs.
