SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Did you toss your leftovers last night? Did you think about the starving kids in Africa? What about in America? Forty percent of the food grown in the U.S. is wasted. That amounts to 133 billion pounds a year. It's even more outrageous when you consider that 50 million Americans are “food insecure”- living in households where they struggle to get enough to eat.
Fortunately, there's something lawmakers, businesses, and you, the consumer can do about it.
Meet Michelin Star Chef Mourad Lahlou. He’s part of a coalition of celebrity chefs lobbying for legislation to reduce food waste AND to make it easier for farmers, grocers, and restaurants to donate surplus food.
Reducing food waste is a passion for Chef Lahlou and he's also doing his part any way he can. Even if the legislation doesn’t pass, you can still be mindful and follow Chef Lahlou’s lead in your own kitchen. We’ll be thinking twice about the food we buy and throw away and using the opportunity to get more creative in the kitchen!
