WATCH: Messy people catch a lot of flack but are they actually smarter than all of us?

- Do your coworkers joke about how messy your desk is? Well it looks like you’ll have the last laugh because studies show that a messy desk is a sign that you are actually a creative genius. Here’s why.

Being a minimalist may kill your creative energy. Psychologist Kathleen Vohs from the University of Minnesota did a study with two groups of people who were asked to complete tasks in two different rooms- one messy and one tidy. They found that people in the messy room drew more creativity and were quicker at solving problems.

And all the best people were messy! Workspace photographs of Tony Hsieh, along with Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, and Mark Zuckerberg suggest that the best in their field don’t really worry about what their desks look like, and instead get on with work.

When asked about his messy habits, Einstein remarked “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, then what are we to think about an empty desk?” Boom, tell that to your coworkers next time they give you flack! Messy people unite!
