Kindergartner cracks piggy bank to pay for classmates' milk

Piggy banks usually remain intact until there’s something you really really want to buy. Recently a 5-year-old Michigan girl had a great reason -- So she could buy milk for her classmates whose parents can’t afford it.

When Sunshine Oelfke told her grandmother the reason she was counting out her money, Grandma Jackie was touched and set up a GoFundMe page on her behalf. It has surpassed their goal of $5,000 in just over a week, and is enough for every student to have free milk for the rest of the semester.

Sunshine was initially saving money to buy a snowmobile, but she’s obviously learned the joy of helping others before helping herself.

Her teacher, Rita Hausher, told TV6, "It just goes to show that one person, no matter how old, how young, can make a huge, huge difference in the world. I'm very proud of her."
