LOS ANGELES, CA - On June 12th, 2016, our country experienced its largest mass shooting to date with at least 49 people dead and 53 more wounded at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Law enforcement authorities said that Omar Seddique Mateen, wielding an assault rifle and a pistol, stormed the club and called 911 from inside to declare his allegiance to the Islamic state.
A three-hour standoff followed the initial assault. People inside were held hostage until around 5 A.M., when over a dozen police officers and sheriff’s deputies engaged in a shootout with Mateen, leaving him dead and one officer wounded.
Despite this unfathomable nightmare, love is already winning in Orlando. Thousands have already stepped up to donate blood. Some blood banks even reached capacity and have asked people to return tomorrow.
Although the response from donors was overwhelming, they still need types O negative, O positive, and AB plasma. You can help by donating. Visit oneblood.org for more information.
