LOS ANGELES - Burger King announced on Monday that it plans to extend testing of their vegan Impossible Whopper into additional markets across the nation, eventually making the vegan burger available nationwide.
The new Impossible Whopper is a plant-based version of the brand's iconic Whopper sandwich, and has no beef.
“The Impossible Whopper test in St. Louis went exceedingly well and as a result there are plans to extend testing into additional markets in the very near future,” the company said in a statement.
Burger King is targeting nationwide availability of the Impossible Whopper by the end of 2019, the company said.
“Burger King Restaurants in St. Louis are showing encouraging results and Impossible Whopper sales are complementing traditional Whopper purchases,” the company said.
Starting April 1, 59 Burger King restaurants in and around St. Louis tested the Impossible Whopper. This made Burger King the first coast-to-coast quick-service restaurant to serve the award-winning, plant-based meat from food startup Impossible Foods. The California-based company is the maker of the Impossible Burger.
The exact timeline of nationwide roll out and additional markets in which Burger King plans to test the Impossible Whopper were not immediately available.
