Seven people are displaced after a fire in the Oakdale Mobile Home Park Wednesday night completely destroyed one Lemon Street home and damaged two others, police said.

Firefighters and police responded to the park on Route 1 after a 10:30 p.m. 911 call reported the fire.
Capt. Jim Ryan said the owner of the home was awakened by a smoke detector and saw a small fire in the kitchen area of the home.

The residents tried, unsuccessfully, to put out the fire before calling 911 and exiting the unit, Ryan said.

Kendall Park Fire Chief Chris Perez said that the home was “fully engulfed” in flames when he and the first units from all three township departments, Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction and Kingston, responded about seven minutes later.

Kendall Park and Monmouth Junction EMS also responded to the scene.

An estimated 60 firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, Ryan said.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, he said.

The one home was completely destroyed by the fire and two other units were damaged, displacing those residents as well, Ryan said.

Firefighters remained on the scene until about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Both Ryan and Perez said to remind residents to immediately call 911 in the case of a fire and get out of the structure.

“Fire can multiply in minutes,” Ryan said.

Displaced residents were staying with family, Ryan said.

Investigators do not believe the fire to be suspicious at this point.

This was the same mobile home park that hosted pop singer Beyoncé for a music video shoot in 2011.
