Coaster enthusiasts gather Six Flag Great Adventure

It's high-flying, fast times at Six Flags Great Adventure this week -- but you have to know the right people.

"Membership has its privileges," said Tim Baldwin of American Coaster Enthusiasts. "We  know how to do coasters."

Tim is a Dallas native who's in New Jersey for ACE Coaster Con, American Coaster Enthusiasts' annual national convention.  ACE member Brian went on Kingda Ka, the tallest, fastest coaster in the Western Hemisphere. When the ride was over, Brian didn't have to get off. Membership has its privileges.

Members from over 30 states were at Great Adventure this week, enjoying member privileges including coaster riding before the park opens.

They rode Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, the tallest drop ride in the world and Tim and the others had a long list of activities ahead -- including plenty of riding.  The group will also visit Morey's Piers in Wildwood and Storybook Land in Egg Harbor in the never-ending effort to promote preservation of amusement park culture, from the superparks to the smallest mom-and-pop establishments across the land.
