Help support the hockey kids: wear Roxbury stuff to skate with N.J. Devils

If you, or your kid, has dreamed about skating right up to N.J. Devil, whipping out your camera and asking for a selfie, your dream can come true June 13. The red-faced mascot of the New Jersey Devils is coming to Aspen Ice to help the Roxbury Youth Hockey League raise money.

It costs a lot to have a youth hockey organization, said Roxbury Youth Ice Hockey Association board member Stephanie Kooyenga, whose 11-year-old son, Jake, is in the program.

She said she's hoping the appearance by N.J. Devil will draw a big crowd to the "Roxbury Youth Ice Hockey Skate Night" fundraiser. Kooyenga, of Succasunna, said she was a little surprised when she found out N.J. Devil charged a fee to show up to a youth hockey fundraiser, but she is hopeful his presence will yield enough visitors to offset the fee.
