Man charged in shooting deaths of girlfriend, her daughter

- Houston police say charges have been filed against a man in the deadly shooting of a woman and her 23-month-old child whose bodies were found in a southeast Houston home. Jonathan Figueroa, 23, is charged with capital murder in the deaths of Veronica Mercado and her young daughter Linette Cano who was less than three weeks away from her 2nd birthday. 

Police believe Figueroa is driving toward the Mexican border in a maroon 2004 Ford Taurus with Texas license plate CTS 3225. He is not the father of Cano.

Homicide investigators say Figueroa entered Mercado's home on Elvera Street near Broadway and fired multiple gunshots toward Mercado and the young girl.
 
Police also say there is a history of domestic violence between Figueroa and Mercado.
