Let there be sheep

Sheep grazing in New York City? Three ewes -- Elizabeth, Mott and Mulberry, can be found on St. Patrick's Old Cathedral property in Nolita until Saturday.

The animals arrived in May from upstate NY and were sent to help maintain the grass.

The Pastor, Msgr. Donald Sakano, came up with the idea.

"One of the people that take care of the grounds said oh I may be retiring. He said what should I do, I should probably get sheep," Parishioner Frank Alfieri said.

The sheep are low maintenance and there’s a crew trained to take care of them. Parishioner Frank Alfieri helps look after them as well.

They've been a huge hit. Within only a few hours, people stopped constantly to check them out. And the sheep love it!

They come right up to the gates and greet the everyone. There is also religious meaning behind the sheep

"Sheep are the most mentioned animal in scripture,"  Alfieri said.
