Millburn wins Group 4 State Baseball Championship

Twenty-one months removed from undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow as a sophomore, Kevin Czapelski pitched Millburn to a state baseball championship.

With the right-handed junior pitching with confidence and without pain, Millburn captured its first state championship ever with an 11-3 victory over Williamstown in the NJSIAA Group 4 title game on Saturday afternoon.

Max Birner went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Minter went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Millburn. Czapelski allowed two runs in six innings for the victory.

Millburn (27-6) gave Czapelski (10-2) three runs to work with in the top of the second inning. Max Birner led off with a single, took second on Mike Garawitz' sac bunt and third on an infield single by Nick Minter. Birner crossed home on Ryan Adelman's squeeze bunt, and Minter also scored on the play on a bad throw.
