NJ faces blast of heat on first day of summer

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey is facing a blast of heat and humidity on the first day of summer.

Forecasters are predicting high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s on Wednesday. Combined with humidity, it could feel like it's 100 to 104 degrees.

There might be little relief in the evening, when low temperatures could be in the 70s.

Forecasters say the beaches might offer some relief from the heat.

The National Weather Service has already issued an excessive heat warning from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Friday for Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties. Heat advisories will be in effect for most other areas.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity outside and turn on the air conditioner.
