Temperatures soar in NJ

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Temperatures around New Jersey Thursday are hotter than Wednesday.

Forecasters say temperatures could combine with humidity to make it feel like 110 degrees in parts of the state. Thermometers might not drop below 80 in the state's cities during the evening.

Authorities resumed searching for two young men who disappeared while swimming in Seaside Park and Asbury Park. Officials believe they got caught in rip currents while seeking relief from the heat on Wednesday.

American Idol hopefuls got a bit of a break from the heat. They were ushered inside Newark's Prudential Center on Thursday morning to register to audition.

New Jersey's largest city opened cooling centers and Newark's two public swimming pools also are open.
