Utility crews restoring power in south Jersey

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Utility crews in storm-ravaged southern New Jersey are working to restore electricity.

Atlantic City Electric says nearly 100,000 homes and businesses are without service. That's down from about 206,000 at the height of the storm.

Atlantic and Cumberland counties are hardest hit. The utility says it could take until Friday to restore everyone.

Those without electricity aren't facing the humidity that left them sweltering throughout the weekend. Still temperatures are in the upper 80s and low 90s.

Violent storms left behind a path of destruction worse than Tropical Storm Irene.

Two boys in Salem County died when a pine tree fell on their tent in Salem County.
