Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A swath of New Jersey has been put under an excessive heat watch for Independence Day.

The National Weather Service has placed the entire Philadelphia region from Wilmington, Del., to Trenton under the watch from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon.

And the temperature's expected only to rise after that, reaching about 98 by Saturday. That would stretch to 10 a sting of days with temperatures above 90 degrees.

Tuesday's forecast was relatively mild, with highs expected in the lower 90s.
