TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Utility crews in southern New Jersey
continue to restore power to homes and businesses that lost electricity
during severe thunderstorms that struck the region last weekend.
City Electric says about 56,300 homes and businesses were still without
service early Tuesday night. That's down from about 206,000 at the
height of the storm.
Atlantic and Cumberland counties were hardest hit by the storms, which contained strong winds and lightning.
officials say service should be restored to most customers by Wednesday
night, though it could take until Friday for all customers to have
their power back.
Those without power are facing another stretch of hot weather. Highs temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s all week.
