Christie backs Romney's choice for vice president

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is making the case for fellow Republican Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate.

In a statement released by the Romney camp Saturday, Christie says the addition of Ryan to the ticket makes "a team that understands the economic stagnation our country has been facing the last four years and the urgency with which we need to change course."

Christie also said the "Romney-Ryan team is uniquely positioned to make the tough choices necessary to confront our fiscal challenges and get results."

Christie, a star in the party, had been repeatedly mentioned as a possible running mate for Romney. Instead, Romney chose Ryan, a congressman from Wisconsin and chairman of the House Budget Committee.
