POMPTON LAKES, N.J. (AP) — The unclaimed cremated remains of 12 veterans from New Jersey will be buried with military honors on Thursday.

The group Mission of Honor collected the remains after failing to find their relatives.

One of the vets served in the Mexican Border War near the start of the 20th Century. Most of the others served during the world wars.

The Record newspaper reports the volunteer group has reunited 170 remains with next of kin since it started in 2009. It has buried 79 veterans.

Following a service at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Pompton Lakes, the remains will be taken to Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown for a committal service.
