MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Kyrillos (kir-RIHL'-lohs) and his wife earned $437,500 last year, their joint tax returns show.

Kyrillos, a commercial real estate broker, and his wife, an insurance consultant, paid nearly $131,000 in taxes, the records show.

The candidate released his last three years' worth of tax returns at his campaign headquarters in Middletown on Friday.

His opponent, Democratic incumbent Robert Menendez, plans to release his tax returns next week.

Tax returns have been an issue in the presidential election.

Republican Mitt Romney has released his 2010 tax return and has pledged to release his 2011 return before the Nov. 6 election.

Romney says he paid at least 13 percent in taxes over the past decade.

Kyrillos paid 37 percent last year.
