8 Trenton men charged with gun trafficking

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — State authorities say eight Trenton men face gun trafficking charges stemming from numerous sales that occurred near two local funeral homes.

"Operation Gravedigger," a joint operation by the state police and the Trenton Police Department, began in March and targeted illegal gun sales in the city.

Law enforcement officers seized 16 weapons during the operation, including five assault rifles, five handguns, three shotguns and three rifles. All of the weapons were loaded or included ammunition.

Authorities say the alleged gun sellers were not part of an organization group and acted independently. They say each man sold one or more guns to an undercover detective or operative.

The eight men remained jailed Tuesday and were each being held on $100,000 cash bail.
