D.A. Appealing Bail For 'Praying' Parents Set At $250,000

Posted: Updated:

We have been following the story of Herbert and Catherine Schaible for a while now.  This couple lives in Philadelphia and are a faith healing couple who is facing murder charges for the death of their infant son.

Brandon was just 8-months old when he died as a result of bacterial pneumonia.

On Wednesday, the couple turned themselves into police.  Investigators say, because of their religious beliefs, the parents did not seek medical treatment for Brandon.

In the overnight hours, bail was reduced to $250,000 after a defense attorney request.
Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams is now appealing that reduction.

This is the second child the Schaibles lost, after denying medical care.

In 2009, the couple's 2-year-old son Kent also died of bacterial pneumonia.

While the parents are being blamed by many for the deaths of their children, this appears to be another instance where the system may have failed as well.

Fox 29 invited Attorney Jennifer Brandt onto Good Day this morning to discuss some of the issues in this case, and how it can be prevented from happening again.
