Widow Reacts To Charges In Center City Building Collapse

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in five years Maggie Davis walked into Faith Immanuel Lutheran Church without her husband Borbor.

The 68-year-old Liberian immigrant was working in the basement of the Salvation Army Thrift store Wednesday when the building next door crumbled on top of it.

Davis' husband, her best friend was one of six people killed in the collapse.

Police say Sean Benschop is responsible for killing the 68-year-old man.

He covered his face while turning himself in to Central Detectives Saturday.

Police say he was high on marijuana while operating the backhoe during the deadly demolition.

"He destroyed me. He took my husband"

We gave Davis  her first look at the 42-year-old man now charged with killing her husband.

Benschop is  facing six counts of involuntary manslaughter and 13 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of risking catastrophe.

Thank God! Thank God!" exclaimed Davis. The wages of sin is death."

"Maybe that will bring closure. If he is convicted of what he committed," Borbor's nephew Arthur Wesseh said somberly.

As attorneys' investigators snapped pictures and looked for clues of negligence at the demotion site at 22nd and Market...Davis' church family paid tribute to Borbor whose kindness helped him win honors as the church's 2010 father of the year.

"I love him, but God loves him best. So I have to give up for God to take charge of him."

The family has established a Borbor Davis Memorial fund at TD Bank.
