New Jersey Senate Race - My9 New Jersey

New Jersey Senate Race

Posted: Updated:

Bill chased the story about the upcoming United States Senate Special Primary Election. He followed Cory Booker and his campaign bus to a local meet-and-greet where he got to see how voters respond to the Mayor of Newark and treat him like a rock star.

Bill had the chance to talk to Booker's brother who claims that this is how Cory has always been and that people just gravitate to him.  Voters at the event were surprised at how relatable Booker was. The event was not so much about the issues surrounding the campaign but more about getting to know people of New Jersey and encourage them to get out and vote.

Booker has to get through Steve Lonegan, running in the Republican Primary who doesn't really have much of a real challenge and is likely to win.  Kate met up with Lonegan on his campaign tour where unlike Booker, he was all about discussing the tough issues.

He's going out for small business owners and throwing bombs at Booker who is likely to be his opponent in the Special Senate Election, stating that the Mayor underreported his income and that he is too dependent on Silicon Valley money.

In addition, Sibile followed Republican Candidate Frank Pallone on his campaign stops in Sayreville, and Ronica was on a mission to meet up with Democrat Rush Holt as he hit the campaign trail as well.

Back in the studio the Chasers debate whether or not Lonegans knack for politics can beat Booker's celebrity status in the polls.

Fair Lawn, New Jersey Mayor John Cosgrove says that the town’s water tower is in desperate need of repairs, but it seems that a bird’s nest is the reason why construction hasn’t began yet. “It’s a $1.5 million project. We’re going to paint the tower, it hasn’t been painted in 18 years, so we were ready and thought we could get it done in the spring and be ready for summer and now we have to wait between four and six weeks because we have to wait until the hatchlings fly,” he explained.
