Asbury Park Website Hacked - My9 New Jersey

Asbury Park Website Hacked

Posted: Updated:
Asbury Park, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Asbury Park’s official website is offline after the city discovered that it had been hacked.

It hack appears to have originated in Turkey and  anyone who visited the site before the issue was uncovered could have had their personal information compromised.

Chasing New Jersey was notified about this hacking by Sean Sposito from American Banker.

He says that the hackers used a very common tactic to take over the site's back-end content management system.

“While we don’t know what this exploit actually does," Sposito says, "we can guess that, on some level, this hacking is financially motivated.”

Robert Lee with Intuit Security Business says that “a hacker can interact with that website and upload malicious content so when a regular user comes back to the site they load my malicious content.”

M Studio was the original designer of the website.  A spokesman there says they were cut out of the process back in 2011 due to budget restraints so the site security was never updated and that’s probably how it got compromised.

The New Jersey bail system is broken and more and more people can’t afford to get out of jail. The New Jersey Supreme Court Committee has recommended historic changes to this money-making machine, prospectively cutting the pretrial defendant population in half and saving taxpayers money. One person currently stuck in the broken system is Aakash Dalal, a former Rutgers student who is being held in Bergen County Jail on $4 million bail for his role in firebombing a synagogue 2 years ago.
