PHILADELPHIA -

Police say a mother left her baby girl of less than a year old inside a hot car for nearly 45 minutes. Tonight, that mother is being questioned at police Special Victims Unit. Meanwhile, we're happy to report that the baby girl is doing fine.

On a day when temperatures hit the mid-80's, a frantic discovery for some stunned Wal-Mart customers on the 9700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard: a crying baby girl was locked in a hot car, alone.

"The baby was screaming and the doors were closed and the windows were closed," says Ekremah Yaghnam.

Ekremah Yaghnam took a video as fellow customers surrounded the car to help. He says one man pounded on the windows to free the girl and another good Samaritan called 911.

"The guy started trying to break into the windows and the doors to pick up the girl. And the fire truck came to try to open the door," recalls Ekremah Yaghnam of Northeast Philadelphia.

Police and fire crews descended on the parking lot as the child's parents emerged. Witnesses say the father went shopping first and left the daughter and her mother in the car. But the mother decided to shop as well.

When the mother came out of the store, she was greeted by police.

"That's sad. I was crying for the baby," says Nimeh Yaghnam.

Shoppers, many of them parents themselves, say they can't believe what they saw.

"I said, ‘oh my God. Thank you God.' I never leave my kids in the car. I always protect my kids. I would never let this happen to my kid," says Nimeh Yaghnam, a mother.

Paramedics checked out the little girl at the scene. Police say she is fine.

Jasmin Ingram, the mother of the girl, has been charged on Wednesday with endangering the welfare of her child.
