Is Booker Too Jewish? - My9 New Jersey

Is Booker Too Jewish?

Posted: Updated:
Newark, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Is Cory Booker too Jewish for New Jersey? What's that you say? He's Jewish? Oh, right - he's a Protestant. But when was the last time you heard of a Protestant reading Torah once a week, speaking Yiddish and Hebrew, heading up Jewish societies at Oxford and Yale, and hanging with Hasidic Jews?

Some in the media have come to Booker as a “philo-semite”.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who happens to be a friend of Booker and also the spiritual advisor to Madonna and other, spoke about the Newark mayor's Jewish connections.

"Let me be clear, the beautiful thing about Cory is that he's a Christian, and he's a Christian whose Christianity is enhanced by exposure to Judaism," Boteach says, "And it’s something that I would like to see other political figures emulate.”

He says that Newark has a very small Jewish population and Booker's main concern has been meeting the needs of his constituents.

Rabbi Boteach does say he expects Booker to be a solid pro-Israel vote in the U.S. Senate if elected to serve.

"Cory sees it as a thriving democracy, an American style democracy, committed to human rights," Boteach says.

A sweetener cheaper than sugar but just as sweet is now in many food and drink products at the grocery store.  It's called high fructose corn syrup.  Some nutritionists, like dietician Dawn Sharp, claim it’s pretty bad for you.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
