Is Senator Menendez Corrupt?

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Senator Bob Menendez has been listed as one of the top 13 most corrupt politicians in the country by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW). Menendez is being accused of taking money without reporting it to the ethics committee as well as doing favors in exchange for that money. He is reportedly under federal investigation for using his position to benefit the business interests of a close friend and campaign donor. There is also a pending grand jury investigation and an ethics committee inquiry on his behavior.

Political strategist and analyst Kevin Hagan doesn’t believe anything will come from these investigations. He said “My first question is how many times does somebody have to be found innocent before they’re proven guilty. The reality is that this isn’t the first allegation that Senator Menendez has had to face, yet none of them have come to fruition in terms of charges that have led to indictments that led to jail or any other thing.”

The Executive Director behind CREW said herself that the Department of Justice and the senate ethics committee have found nothing criminal in their investigation and have brought nothing forward. Hagen feels like CREW may need to be at the center of their own investigation. He said, “Maybe an investigation has to be done on how, where, and what they’re getting their information from.”

Hagen believes at the end of the day, there is no proof to these allegations and that what really matters is that the New Jersey people reelected Menendez and put him back in the Senate seat.

The race in Newark to replace now Senator Cory Booker is getting publicity for all the wrong reasons. Some are choking it up to dirty politics with campaign buses being torched, offices being broken into and inappropriate fliers circulating around town encouraging people to “vote black”, even though both candidates are African American. With many people questioning what is going on in Newark, former Mayor Sharpe James chimed in to discuss the city’s current political landscape.

Yesterday was Earth Day and people all across New Jersey took time to celebrate Mother Earth. Founder of the Astor Free Community Garden in Jersey City, Tinina Bland, organized a day of gardening with some of the city’s hardest working two and three year olds. “We reach out throughout the entire community, we grow collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, four different types of tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin and this year we’re introducing fruit,” Bland explained.

Every year the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce sponsors a train heading to Washington D.C. full of lobbyists and politicians. This year marks the 77th annual New Jersey Walk to Washington event where people board a train and use that trip to walk around the aisles and network with some of the Garden State’s top political and business leaders. Governor Christie has even said in the past that the year does not begin until the Chamber dinner in Washington.
