NEW YORK, NY -

Rainbow Looms are all the rage this year. The toy is a hit with kids who love making colorful jewelry. However, not everyone is enjoying their popularity.

The principal of PS 87 on Manhattan's Upper West Side outlawed the bracelets, saying that they are creating distractions in class and even causing kids to fight.

In a letter quoted in the New York Post, the principal says," starting immediately, your children are no longer allowed to bring any Rainbow Loom bracelets or the kits to school."

Of course, some parents say that the school should be focusing on more important things than rainbow looms. Kids at the school also deny arguing and fighting over the looms.

A few parents, though, seem less taken aback by the ban. One parent told the New York Post that the ban might make her daughter more active, because she just sits around and looms during recess.

The guy who invented the rainbow loom is a former crash test engineer for Nissan. He says he was inspired after seeing his daughters making bracelets out of rubber bands. You can find out more here.
