The Heard family in Succasunna, New Jersey is wild for Halloween!

What originally started out 20 years ago as a small Halloween display on the family’s porch and yard has spiraled into something a little more festive than your average holiday decorations.

In fact the Heard family displays demonic Halloween decorations that builds annually and lasts for the entire month of October.

Homeowner Craig Heard says “It’s out of control, but it’s a lot of fun. I guess we’ve been to Disneyland too many times.”

Decorations include the lawn being turned into a graveyard, skeletons, ghosts, tombstones, and even a flying Dutchmen. The lawn also consists of a huge ship that had been added to the collection 6 years ago.

The inside of the house is filled with animatronic horrors and looks like a horror museum. It’s almost hard to believe that during the off season, that it’s a regular house and people actually live there.

The phenomenon with the celebration has been passed down to the younger generation. Craig Heard Jr. said, “It’s a lot of fun trying to come up with creative ways to top it or change it; the kids always come looking for something different something new,” he said.

There is no telling just how much the Heard family spends per year on the lavish display, but they said the money is well worth it for all the fun that they’ve had over the years.

The house is open one night a year and this year it’s estimated that about 3,000 children will make their way through the haunted display.

Yesterday was Earth Day and people all across New Jersey took time to celebrate Mother Earth. Founder of the Astor Free Community Garden in Jersey City, Tinina Bland, organized a day of gardening with some of the city’s hardest working two and three year olds. “We reach out throughout the entire community, we grow collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, four different types of tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin and this year we’re introducing fruit,” Bland explained.

Every year the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce sponsors a train heading to Washington D.C. full of lobbyists and politicians. This year marks the 77th annual New Jersey Walk to Washington event where people board a train and use that trip to walk around the aisles and network with some of the Garden State’s top political and business leaders. Governor Christie has even said in the past that the year does not begin until the Chamber dinner in Washington.
