Christie On The Cover Of “TIME”

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Governor Chris Christie is the latest political figure to grace the cover of TIME Magazine, but some people feel like this time around, the Governor’s second TIME cover is a bit insensitive.

The magazine refers to Governor Christie as “the elephant in the room” and is causing a lot of uproar over whether or not this is really a reference to the governor’s weight.

TIME magazine went into damage control by saying that “the elephant in the room” reference wasn’t just about Christie’s size, but about his big impact on Republican politics and his large impact on society.

The social media feedback regarding this magazine cover is in full swing and most people whether they are Christie supporters or not have been sympathetic to him in this particular situation.

Founder and editor of SaveJersey.com Matt Rooney chimed in on the situation. “They (TIME Magazine) knew when they put this cover together it would have two meanings and would be taken in two different ways. It’s no secret that print magazine and print journalism in general is suffering, they are trying to sell and they knew that fat jokes get people’s attention. So sure enough its tabloid journalism and here we are talking about it so it worked for them,” he said.

Rooney went on to discuss why Christie’s political reputation makes him an easy target. “They need to take it to the next step; they have to do something a little bit edgy, but doing that we found out about how they really feel about Christie. Not just over at TIME Magazine, but in general. They don’t really like the guy. They only like to use him because he says some really marketable stuff that gets people to read,” Rooney said.

Christie’s weight has been an on-going debate ever since talk of him possibly running for a 2016 president bid. But should weight even be a factor in politics at all? “What is one of the biggest buzzwords of our time? Anti-bullying right? When you keep somebody under merits you’re gonna call them a fatty or you’re gonna call them a poopy-head I mean this is what they’ve resorted to. I also think there is something to be said for the fact that politics is all about contrast and he comes across as a real guy. He’s not one of the fake package people we’re used to having to choose between in Washington D.C. That’s how he’s perceived and it’s selling,” Rooney said.

In the end, it’s no secret that Christie is truly making a name for himself as being larger than life, not just in New Jersey politics, but nationally as well.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
