In February, Marvel Comics will be bringing back Ms. Marvel as a teenage Muslim girl living in Jersey City. The new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, is a 16-year-old daughter of Pakistani immigrants, who not only fights evil, but also juggles the drama of being an urban teen.

The new Ms. Marvel is the latest attempt by Marvel Comics to diversify its lead characters.

Kamala Kahn is among Marvel’s first leading characters to be both female and Muslim. In the past, another female Muslim character, Dust, has appeared in X-Men comics, but was never a leading character. On Twitter, fans of Marvel have been raving about this effort and their excitement about Ms. Marvel.

It looks like comic book fans are not the only ones excited for the diversity. Nadia Kalf of the Council on American Islamic Relations says this is a positive step forward in diversity and understanding. “I have two daughters and certainly when they were growing up, I would have loved for them to have a Muslim female superhero as a role model for them to look up to,” she said.

A sweetener cheaper than sugar but just as sweet is now in many food and drink products at the grocery store.  It's called high fructose corn syrup.  Some nutritionists, like dietician Dawn Sharp, claim it’s pretty bad for you.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
