Before the turkey, came the scrambled eggs and bacon.

An extra special thank you to some 1500 family members of law enforcement officers, many whom will have an empty seat at the Thanksgiving table.

“I know what you sacrifice,” Former NYC mayor Rudy Guiliani said. “You're the reason the city is safe.”

Giuliani stopped by to offer gratitude to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Among them the families of firefighters like Stan Smagala. who was killed on 911

Bill Germano's daughter Dena was married to Stan.

Bill Germano’s, son-in-law was killed in line of duty. He served with Engine 226 and died in the south tower, Dena was pregnant at the time with his daughter Alexa.

Alexa was born in January 2002

Stan Smagala's family comes to the breakfast organized by the National Law Enforcement and Firefighter's Childrens Foundation every Thanksgiving.

“It is something you know, that New York City hasn't forgotten,” Germano said.

And the foundation strives to make sure the children of fallen or gravely injured officers are not forgotten.

Al Kahn, President of NLFACF said “we are here today to basically celebrate our first responders and thank them for everything they've done for us and let them know we will support their families in times of need.”

University of Scranton junior Bridget Hanley and her sister Kayla both got college scholarships from the foundation this year.

Their dad was injured in line of duty.

Kayla said it’s helpful because their dad was injured in the line of duty so it helps with their tuition to school
