Route 3 Becoming Franchise Heaven - My9 New Jersey

Route 3 Becoming Franchise Heaven

Posted: Updated:
Route 3, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

What used to be a family friendly neighborhood along Route 3 in New Jersey has now become a little more impersonal. Route 3 East heading towards Nutley and Passaic has become a “franchise heaven”. You can now find stores like Staples, Chipotle and Sports Authority added to the already stressful road widening construction along Route 3, which is costing $200 million in state and federal money.

Still nestled along Route 3 is the Rutherford Animal Hospital, where some workers there are welcoming the added big business. Dr. Neal Beeber of the Animal Hospital said, “It’s good for the area, it’s good business because a lot of people are driving by our facility and can see it and there's challenges in terms of traffic and getting around you’re used to it when you grow up here.”

Ironically enough, the best known areas of Route 3 are MetLife Stadium and the uncompleted Xanadu Complex which happens to be the most desolate facilities on the road.

Mike Fleherty, a Secaucus resident, is concerned for the safety of pedestrians along Route 3 and does not advise people to walk along that road. “It’s not a safe road, there’s no place for people to walk, if you go over Route 3, they just re-did the bridge, why didn’t they put a walkway to go to MetLife stadium?” He said.

Heading further down into Secaucus, Route 3 gets wider and businesses there are taking advantage of the upcoming holiday season and Super Bowl coming to town. Bareli’s Restaurant located on the side of Route 3, is preparing with new renovation which they are aiming to have completed by the second week of December.

The town of Hoboken, New Jersey is cracking down on Uber cars driving in and picking up passengers in the city. Uber is an app that you can use to request a car service to pick you up, but city officials say they are not licensed to operate in town. Marcus Enriquez was actually thrown out of an Uber car by a Hoboken police officer. He said he was on his way to work outside of the Hoboken taxi stand when a cop knocked on the window, kicked him out of the car and ticketed the Uber driver.
