Snow storm moves out of New York area

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - A snow storm moved across the tristate New York area on Tuesday, but the city saw little accumulation despite getting a few inches. The storm left behind on average 2 to 4 inches for much of the area, according to Fox 5's Nick Gregory. The dropping temperatures and the wetness on the ground mean icy road conditions.

Some schools in Connecticut were closed. Danbury got 2.4 inches, but Darien got only an inch.

Whitehouse Station, N.J., had 4.3 inches of accumulation, whereas Wantage had just an inch.

Meantime in New York, Armonk saw 3.9 inches of snow on the ground while Centereach, on Long Island, has an inch.

The dropping temperatures and the wetness on the ground mean icy road conditions.

MORE WEATHER INFORMATION

The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a 'snow alert' that began at 6 a.m. Alternate side parking regulations in New York City were suspended due to the inclement weather to facilitate snow removal.

The National Weather Service had issued a Winter Weather Advisory for New York City, Nassau County, most of north and central New Jersey.

Flights were delayed at the airports in Philadelphia, Newark, and New York City.
