Parking Authority Boot Controversy - My9 New Jersey

Parking Authority Boot Controversy

Posted: Updated:
Jersey City, New Jersey (My9NJ) - What’s driving the towns of Hoboken and Jersey City to boot and tow so many cars? Well, according to some people, it all depends on who you know, in order to avoid getting your car the boot.

Hoboken makes an estimated 3.5M in parking tickets annually.   Meanwhile, Jersey City “booted” over 312,000 cars in the last 3 years.

Terrence McDonald, a reporter for the “Jersey Journal” said that some people are getting special treatment.

“I discovered that in the past three years, the parking authority has removed dozens and dozens of boots for free for agency workers, for city workers, for politicians, for other kind of high-ranking officials in Jersey City,” McDonald said.

McDonald also said that Jersey City officials use sway to get friends out of parking fines.

“86 officials have gotten out of paying for their boot by doing this."

In the past, the only exceptions for being allowed to park anywhere were held for high ranking positions within Homeland Security and the FBI. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

For many, the conflict between Israel and Palestine hits close to home. Yesterday a rally took place outside of the United Nations building in New York City and people from both sides were on hand to voice their concerns about the ongoing airstrikes. New Jersey’s Rabbi Gross discussed the fact that many of his former students, after graduation, decided to join the Israeli Defense Force and are now immersed in the fighting.
