“Same Sky” Helping Hudson County Women

Posted: Updated:
Jersey City, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Miss USA, Erin Brady, was at the Newport Center Mall in Jersey City to support the Same Sky program that is now helping women in the Hudson County area who recently got out of prison.

Same Sky is an organization that provides jobs globally for women struggling to lift themselves out of poverty. Instead of a handout, Same Sky believes in giving a hand-up and helping women gain the tools they need to become self-sufficient. These women are trained to be artisans who make and sell beautiful jewelry to earn income.

“We’ve been working with Same Sky for a few years now and as Miss USA I’ve been able to be introduced to the wonderful organization. I get to wear the bracelets. It’s such a great cause, ya know they help these women in different countries and now we’re bringing it to New Jersey and actually these women make these beautiful small bracelets, for most of you everybody loves jewelry so it’s wonderful, it’s going to a great cause and it’s just a very important thing, every girl likes bling bling, so it’s beautiful to be a part of,” Brady said.

The bracelets will continue to be made at the Newport Center Mall for the next few days and people are encouraged to head down and help support Same Sky.

Atlantic City has been struggling. The Showboat and Trump Plaza Casinos are both scheduled to close next month and Mayor Don Guardian says that the city needs to figure out a way to change things if it wants to survive, but he said it’s not dead yet! “So Atlantic City may be 15 years after Vegas and I realized that it’s not all about casinos, it’s about the overall experience of coming to resorts,” he said.
