Etiquette Expert Keri White Explains Holiday Tipping

The season of giving is upon us and questions often arise as to who you should tip during the holidays. Etiquette expert Keri White answers the holiday tipping question for us.

The bottom line is: prioritize tipping to those who are most essential to your life.

A simple way to remember is to tip the amount usually paid for service. Therefore, if you spend 20 dollars on a haircut, you give the haircutter 20 dollars as a tip for the holiday.

A full-time nanny should get full week's pay as tip. $10-35 is the norm for landscapers, mailmen, and other people you see once in a while. With a USPS worker, cash is technically not allowed, but you can give a gift; for example, give them a box of cookies.

Also remember this, though tipping is highly encouraged, it is optional.

"You're not expected to take out a loan to pay your providers," White said.

Sometimes, a handwritten note is the best thank you and doesn't break the bank, White reminded everyone.
