NJ’s Strict Gun Laws - My9 New Jersey

NJ’s Strict Gun Laws

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Ever since the tragic murder and carjacking of Dustin Friedland at the Short Hills Mall people everywhere are questioning their sense of safety.

While many are debating the possible death penalty for the four suspects involved in the shooting, other people are struggling with whether or not New Jersey’s strict gun laws are actually putting us at risk.

New Jersey has the strictest gun laws in the nation and many people feel like they are unable to protect themselves from situations like the carjacking that occurred before the holidays.

David Webb, a Fox News Contributor and Radio host chimed in about why the death penalty is even being discussed since New Jersey banned in back in 2007.

“We’re having a discussion about the death penalty because it goes back to the nature of crime and what it is. Crimes that are committed are done by criminals. The death penalty is a punitive measure which should be used for those who frankly can’t be rehabilitated or violated our strictest legal and moral codes. So we have two wrong arguments going on both sides of this issue. One is we get to the argument over the money it costs, the years that it takes but we have watched our criminal justice system become in the last 40-50 years a social engineering experiment versus a punitive system…When it comes to protection and self-protection, legal gun owners, the responsible people are not the ones committing the crimes. So why do we punish American’s right to defend themselves and not allow them to defend themselves against criminals?” Webb said.

President of the NJ 2nd Amendment Society, Frank Flamingo couldn’t agree more.

“The problem here in New Jersey is not a mall shooting or an occasional issue. What we have is a serious epidemic of problems. I mean if you have looked at recent broadcasts you’re going to find that there were 450 carjacking’s in Essex County alone in this past year and when you have that kind of criminality going on and the people are left defenseless by the 3 branches of the New Jersey government, we have a serious problem,” he said.

A sweetener cheaper than sugar but just as sweet is now in many food and drink products at the grocery store.  It's called high fructose corn syrup.  Some nutritionists, like dietician Dawn Sharp, claim it’s pretty bad for you.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
