New Jersey Deer Hunt Outrage - My9 New Jersey

New Jersey Deer Hunt Outrage

Posted: Updated:
Cranford, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Nomahegan Park located in Cranford and Kenilworth, New Jersey is a great place for people to come and enjoy the scenery. The park is fully equipped with playground equipment, jogging trails, picnic tables and wildlife. But some people are outraged over a deer hunt being held in the park.

The controversy arises because this is a highly populated area and many are afraid that someone can get hurt.

One protestor Patti Hackenberg described why this park is just not the best place for a hunt.

“There’s high school kids, middle aged kids that constantly cut through these woods to get back and forth to school. There are also parts of this park that kids hang out in,” she said.

The deer hunt is part of Union County’s wildlife management program and their website states that 40 qualified experienced hunters will be selected for permits and that only shotguns can be used. They will only allow 12 hunters in the park at a time and as of now there are three-hunting days left for anyone interested in participating.
