Democrats React To Bridgegate

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Two of New Jersey’s most powerful democratic leaders, Senator Barbara Buono and Senate President Steve Sweeney took the time to discuss some important issues in New Jersey, the ongoing bridgegate debacle and also the federal probe into the spending of Sandy relief aid.

Senator Barbara Buono ran for governor against Chris Christie and discussed some of his political tactics specifically surrounding bridgegate.

“He will stop at nothing to achieve his political ends, but I thought this was too petty,” she said.

Buono said she has been the victim of political retaliation as early as her assignment as the first female majority leader in 2010 where she was denied access to high level policy meetings. She also experienced road blocks during her campaign. “Time after time, I would call lobbyists and people involved in NJ and they would say, 'listen I can’t contribute to you unless it's below the reporting threshold,’” Buono said.

There is now a federal probe into Sandy relief spending and Buono chimed in and that as well. “New Jersey politics is very, what we call, transactional, and you heard one of the famous quotes of Michael Wildstein when he was heading up PolitickerNJ he said ya know, don’t worry about policy, policy is meaningless, it is politics. And that is just the antithesis of why you should run for office,” she said.

Senate President Sweeney on the other hand doesn’t seem to be mad at Governor Christie for this whole bridgegate debacle.

“I feel that I hope what the governor told the people is true. Because that what I really hope for the people of New Jersey, that his office wasn’t involved in this,” he said.

When asked about the federal probe into the Sandy relief spending, Sweeney suggested that more digging should be done.

“They should investigate it and look as far as they have to and as deep as they need to find out if it was spent properly or not,” he said.

A sweetener cheaper than sugar but just as sweet is now in many food and drink products at the grocery store.  It's called high fructose corn syrup.  Some nutritionists, like dietician Dawn Sharp, claim it’s pretty bad for you.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
