Corruption Within The Christie Administration

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - With the latest bridgegate scandal still on everyone’s mind it’s no surprise that there is corruption within the Christie administration.

NJ Watchdog investigative reporter Mark Lagerkvist has coined the phrase “double-gate” this time referring to supposed unethical acts by Christie’s Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno where she allegedly fudged the title of one of her aids allowing them to double-dip.

“What we have is Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno when she was the Monmouth County Sheriff gave misleading statements that allowed one of her chief aides to improperly collect a pension he wasn’t entitled to on top of his salary. After we did the story, a state pension board asked the state to start a criminal investigation. They did start the criminal investigation, but the investigation was assigned to the state’s division of criminal justice. Guadagno used to be the deputy director of DCJ, it was a conflict of interest. Governor Christie had the constitutional power to appoint a special prosecutor, he didn’t. We don’t know what happened to the investigation. Three years later nobody has said anything, we don’t whether it’s open or closed, they refuse to release any records even though I’m currently suing them in Mercer County superior court,” he said.

Since the bridgegate debacle broke, Guadagno along with other members of Christie’s administration has remained tight-lipped on the topic. Lagerkvist said this type of behavior is a reflection of how this government operates.

“I think the administration has already been this way for quite a while. And now with bridgegate and other things, we’re actually seeing evidence of this at work,” he said.

Some argue that this behavior isn’t particular to one administration, that in fact, this is just usual politics at work.

“This is politics as usual; the ironic thing of course is that Governor Christie portrays himself as somebody who’s above politics, who doesn’t do politics as usual,” Lagerkvist said.
