24-year old Chelsey Laster is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility.

Police believe she didn't act alone and they believe her part is just a small part of a much bigger scam.

"This is not your run of the mill. These are pretty skilled people," Patrolman Julie Howery said..

Police say it was a high tech scam stealing bank account numbers of unsuspecting victims and imprinting them on phony gift cards. Police arrested Laster on Tuesday, investigators say she ran the scheme out of her Park Crest Village Apartment.

"What they were paying for at the register was with these fraudulent card this way there is no name ever traced because they are buying it with a gift card that just says gift card," Howery said.

Investigators say the elaborate scheme was cut short when Laster made purchases totaling $600 with a reloadable card at save a lot and family dollar in Glassboro and police caught up with her.

"The debit card she would normally use would have her name on it. It's not linked to a bank account. The only way money goes on that card is that you would have to buy a separate card." Police say a search of Laster's apartment uncovered $900 of blank gift cards, a credit card imprint machine and card swipe machine. They also tell us charges are pending against Laster's boyfriend.
